FAQ
-
Can I increase my air pressure with an Air Amplifier?
No. Air Amplifiers amplify volume, not pressure. Air Amplifiers use small volumes of compressed air to produce high volume outlet flows with low outlet pressures (well below 1 PSIG). If low pressure is a problem, it is best to evaluate the compressed air system. Restrictive fittings, undersized lines, clogged lines or a maxed out compressor may be the problem.

Which Cabinet Cooler should I use?
To determine the correct model for your application, it is first necessary to determine the total heat load to which the control panel is subjected. This total heat load is the combination of two factors - heat dissipated within the enclosure and heat transfer from outside into the enclosure. We're glad to help you calculate your heat load. You can contact an Application Engineer, or complete our easy online form, and we'll do the calculations for you. Click here for our Cabinet Cooler Sizing Guide.

What is the difference between the Cold Gun and the Adjustable Spot Cooler?
The Cold Gun is an engineered, pre-set vortex tube product that includes heat shielding, sound muffling, and magnetic mount to facilitate use in machining applications. The unit is pre-set for maximum refrigeration. The 5215 and 5315 models will produce 1000 Btu/hr. of cooling power with 100 PSIG input pressure. The 5230 and 5330 models will produce 2000 Btu/hr. of cooling power with 100 PSIG input pressure.
The Adjustable Spot Cooler is very similar in form and function to the Cold Gun. However, it is "adjustable" because the temperature drop that can be achieved is variable with the use of an integral valve that regulates temperature drop. The flow rate consumed by the Adjustable Spot Cooler is also variable with the use of 3 different flow rate adjustments. The cooling power of an Adjustable Spot Cooler can be as high as 2000 Btu/hr. with 100 PSIG input pressure.

If I simultaneously connect the Summing Remote Display and the Data Logger to the Digital Flowmeter, will the accuracy of the reported air consumption be changed?
No, connecting both the Summing Remote Display and the Data Logger will not affect the accuracy of the Digital Flowmeter.
-
What is the temperature range for the ETC?
The ETC is adjustable from 80°F to 120°F (approximately 27°C to 49°C).
-
If I am creating vacuum in a dirty environment or upon a dirty surface will the E-Vac be damaged?
No, The E-Vac’s straight through design will allow dust and contaminants to flow through without causing damage.
-
Do you recommend a filter to use with your products?
EXAIR recommends a 25 micron filter separator (or finer) for its Vortex Tube and Line Vac products and a 10 micron (or finer) filter separator for its other products. They remove dirt and water condensate present in the compressed air. If oil is present in the compressed air supply. EXAIR recommends the use of a coalescing oil removal filter.
EXAIR products sold as kits contain the appropriately sized filters and regulators.

What is the difference between "CFM" and "SCFM"?
SCFM = Standard Cubic Feet per Minute. This is 1 cubic foot of free air at standard atmospheric temperature and pressure (the standard conditions are usually 68°F and 14.7 PSIA).
CFM = Cubic Feet per Minute. This is sometimes incorrectly used interchangeably with SCFM meaning free air. Unless the pressure and temperature are specified with CFM, the actual volume of gas flow cannot be determined.

What kind of maintenance is necessary for an Ionizing Bar?
A soft bristle brush (a toothbrush works well) should be used to clean the emitter points and channel to remove any particulate. Do not use anything that will bend or dull the emitter points. Do not use any soaps or liquid cleaners that will leave a conductive residue. They can destroy the effectiveness and lifespan. A simple cleaning operation added to your planned maintenance schedule can eliminate potential performance problems. The frequency of cleaning required will depend upon the environment in which the ionizer is installed. Dirty industrial applications may require daily cleaning while clean-room applications may require only monthly cleaning. It is important to evaluate the cleaning needs of each individual ionizer installation.
Never clean an ionizer with the power on!

How much material can be conveyed with a Line Vac?
The conveying ability is affected by many factors, some of which are: Line Vac size, input pressure, conveying distance, vertical lift required, bends in the conveying path and type of material being conveyed. Since any one of these variables can have a dramatic effect on performance, it is suggested that the Line Vac be tested in the application to verify results. EXAIR Application Engineers can help determine if the Line Vac will work based on application requirements and assist in selecting the proper size Line Vac for the application.

What is the difference between the Soft Grip Safety Air Gun and the Heavy Duty Safety Air Gun?
The Soft Grip Safety Air Gun has a 1/4 NPT female compressed air connection, is physically smaller and can be outfitted with 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 NPT nozzles. The Heavy Duty Safety Air Gun has a 3/8 NPT female compressed air connection, is larger and can be outfitted with 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 NPT nozzles.
-
What makes the Super Air Nozzle so "super"?
The Super Air Nozzle has been engineered to dramatically reduce sound levels and compressed air costs while providing excellent blowing force for your application.
-
What is the angle of the airflow from the Super Air Wipe?
The airflow impinges the product traveling through the Super Air Wipe at a 30° angle (60º included angle).
-
Will the Stay Set Hose deflect when I put compressed air into it?
EXAIR Stay Set Hoses are engineered to maintain their position during operation. Deflection has been minimized by design.
-
What is a Vortex Tube?
Vortex Tubes are a product of the EXAIR Corporation. They use compressed air as a power source, have no moving parts and produce cold air from one end and hot air from the other.
Usually the cold air is used for refrigeration or spot cooling applications. The hot air can be used for spot heating applications but the temperatures and volumes are not very high and usually there is a better way to get hot air.
-
What are the temperature limits for your air knives?
Aluminum Air Knife with plastic shim: 180°F (82°C)
Aluminum Air Knife with stainless steel shim: 400°F (205°C)
Stainless Steel Air Knife with plastic shim: 180°F (82°C)
Stainless Steel Air Knife with stainless steel shim: 800°F (427°C)*
*Temperatures that exceed 800°F (427°C) may produce intergranular corrosion that can eventually plug the air gap opening.
-
Can I connect the output of a Vortex Tube to an Air Amplifier?
No, for proper operation, the Vortex Tube cold outlet should not be subjected to any restrictions that would produce backpressure in excess of 5 PSIG. An Air Amplifier would restrict the flow of a Vortex Tube to the point where the backpressure is excessive and severely limit the cooling capacity of the Vortex Tube.
-
How do your air nozzles differ from each other?
The EXAIR Air nozzles differ in flow, force, material and size.
